The Dan Smoot Report List Items

Dan Smoot, for more than fifteen years editor of the incisive and authoritative newsletter known as The Dan Smoot Report, has long been among the nation's top conservative leaders. With B.A. and M.A. degrees from Southern Methodist University he went to Harvard in 1941 as a Teaching Fellow, and from there to the F.B.I. where he served nine years. From 1951 to 1955 Mr. Smoot was a commentator on national radio and television.

The Dan Smoot Report was a transcription of Radio and TV commentaries conducted between 1955 and 1976. His report was an 8 page layout until February 28, 1966 at which point it was reduced to a 4 page layout. In 1971, The Dan Smoot Report transitioned from an independent report to a news column within the weekly Review of the News.

Since its founding in 1955, The Dan Smoot Report has been the most widely respected Conservative newsletter in America. For years Mr. Smoot has researched and written under the nearly incredible pressures of producing his weekly commentaries without once failing to meet his deadlines. But Dan Smoot's doctors have told him that in order to safeguard his health he must now relieve some of those pressures. Mr. Smoot has responded by proposing that his Report be merged with The Review Of The News. While we feel considerable sorrow at seeing the Report cease to be an independent publication, there is no periodical and no patriotic writer that we would more gladly welcome into our editorial family. We are therefore very proud to announce that effective with this issue The Dan Smoot Report will be joined with The Review Of The News and that as often as his health will permit Mr. Smoot will be a regular and frequent contributor to these pages. Dan Smoot's regular subscribers will now receive The Review Of The News to satisfy their subscriptions to The Dan Smoot Report. Since we will not be able to offer air mail and first class service as Dan has done for some of his subscribers, we will add, respectively, an extra six months and three months of The Review Of The News to meet those special obligations. For the few thousand of you who have subscribed to both the Review and the Report, we shall credit you with the number of weeks still unexpired on your subscriptions to The Dan Smoot Report.

Within this library you will find a fragment of this collection. None of the first 6 volumes have yet to be obtained by this Library. Only a single issue of Vol 7 (1961) is included. Volumes 8-16 (1962-1970) appear complete. For the years 1971 to 1975, The Dan Smoot Report columns from Review of the News are collected and packaged together. His final 7 columns published during 1976 thru 1984 are included as stand alone articles. It is estimated that the Dan Smoot Report Collection is comprised of 834 independent reports and 56 columns.

In addition there are two known special reports. Of the 892 known items, 528 are included here and 364 have yet to be obtained. This collection is approximately 59% complete. If you have access to any of the missing items, I would welcome the opportunity to add them to the collection. While hard bound annual volumes were typically destroyed in order to scan the pages adequately, new technology will allow me to attempt a photographic imaging via cell phone to preserve hard bound volumes.
