Human Events List Items

Human Events was founded in 1944 by Felix Morley, William Henry Chamberlin, Frank Hanighen, and Henry Regnery. Morley was previously editor of The Washington Post from 1933 to 1940. Regnery formerly worked for the Resettlement Administration, a New Deal-era federal agency. Human Events, which gets its name from the first line of the Declaration of Independence, was included in early JBS chapter libraries.

In 1959, Mr. Welch sent subscriptions of Human Events to the initial chapters formed in the Boston area. In the February 1959 Bulletin, Mr. Welch said "We hope in time to make one or more subscriptions to Human Events, National Review, and The Dan Smoot Report, as well as American Opinion, available to all Chapter Leaders, and shall hope that they will be thoroughly read by many members."

Also in 1959, Mr Welch initiated a joint subscription option: "... joint subscriptions to HUMAN EVENTS and AMERICAN OPINION are available, at twelve dollars for both publications for one year (a saving of four dollars)? Simply send the money and subscription for both to AMERICAN OPINION."

This collection includes Eighteen volumes of Human Events (937 weekly papers), dating from 1944 to 1961. This weekly periodical remained in print through 2013 when it was converted to all-digital. Ownership and editorial changes over time may have impacted the overall reliability of the periodical. Click "list items" to see them...
